Although there are many types of renewable energy systems, they really only generate electricity or create heat, and sometimes both.
Nearly all sources of renewable power get their energy either directly or indirectly from the sun. For example biomass comes from plants that use sunlight to convert Carbon Dioxide to the Carbon within the plant, the wind is created by the heat of the sun causing air currents to form. Only tidal power which is driven by the motion of the Moon around the Earth derives it energy from a source other than the sun.
The most common systems are:
Each of these systems are explained in more detail on the individual technologies pages.
We can provide training courses on each of these technologies as well as the legislative and financial drivers for each which help you choose the right technology for your project.
